His career started as a striker for El Masry Port Said, and in 1999 he moved to Denmark and Akademisk Boldklub. In 2003 he moved to the bigger club FC Midtjylland, becoming league top scorer and Player of the Year the following season. In the winter break of the 2004/05 season he was bought by SV Werder Bremen, and scored in his first two appearances. Ahead of the 2005/06 season he was loaned to FSV Mainz 05. On April 22, 2006 he scored a wonderful goal against Bayern Munchen.
